IG Calls For Customized Strategies To Fight Corruption In Africa
The Inspectorate
of Government (IG) has called for the need to have intentional and purposeful
anti-corruption strategies that are driven by clarity of vision and firm
commitment.
This clarion
call was made by Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, Deputy Inspector General of
Government during the Anti-Corruption Conference 2026 that was held in
Johannesburg, South Africa, from 24th to 27th March, 2026.
Dr. Okiria who
represented the Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha
Batala, noted that for the anti-corruption strategies to work effectively, they
must be grounded in the African context, moving beyond rhetoric and offering
lasting change.
She emphasized
that there cannot be best opportunities for investments and increase in the
return on investments unless the anti-corruption agencies work hard.
The conference
was held under the theme: “Collaborative Governance: Leading the fight against
corruption in Africa for improved Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
It was attended
by Heads of agencies and representatives from Supreme Audit Institutions and
anti-Corruption agencies from over 15 African countries.
This
collaboration affirms Africa’s strong commitment to reshaping the mindset
against corruption across the continent and changing the status quo.
