The Inspector General of Government (IGG) is probing at least 28 district local governments following a list of 3,200 suspected ghost workers that was released by Ministry of Public Service.
According to sources, the list was recently sent by Ministry of Public Service to the IGG to establish whether the workers really existed.
The source further said despite several adverts in the media calling for verification and validation, these individuals failed to turn up.
Munira Ali, the Head of Public and International Relations Division at the Inspectorate of Government, confirmed the investigations.
In the preliminary findings, the IGG has established that there are varying names and biodata of individuals on the active payroll from those captured by National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).
