Butaleja District chairperson Joseph Muyonjo has sacked his vice Ben Muyangu, accusing him of publicising the mess in the construction of the district house in public.

Mr Muyangu was sacked in a council meeting on Monday at the district boardroom. However, a section of his supporters claim he is being sacrificed for his criticism of the shoddy work being done by the company contracted to construct Butaleja District house.

Last week, the same council under the stewardship of Mr Muyangu drafted a petition directing the Inspector General of Government (IGG) to investigate the Shs3 billion building citing shoddy work.

But Mr Muyonjo maintains his action to drop his vice was done as a constitutional mandate that requires not only local governments but also the central government to make such normal reshuffles.

“I merely reshuffled my executive as mandated by the constitution of Uganda under CAP 243 Sec 18(III) which mandates every district chairperson to make reshuffles where necessary,” Mr Muyonjo said.

When contacted for comment, Mr Muyangu said his being sacked in a purported reshuffle has not scared him.

He said he will continue the fight against corruption especially by unearthing the shoddy work being done at the district house.
