BUYENDE. The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has directed the Buyende District chief administrative officer to take disciplinary action against the district fisheries officer.

Mr John Muwadi, is accused of soliciting a bribe of Shs1.3 million from relatives of a fisherman he had earlier arrested over possession of illegal fishing gear.

The directive is contained in a February 26, letter signed by the deputy IGG, Ms Mariam Wangadya.

According to the letter, copied to the secretary district service commission, Mr Muwadi was arrested on August 3, last year by a team from the IGG’s office, but released on police bond and the matter handed over to the district authorities.

“This office laid a trap that arrested Mr Muwadi while receiving a bribe of Shs1.3m he was getting from relatives of the fishermen whom he had arrested for possessing illegal fishing gear but he was released. Therefore, the purpose of this letter is to direct you to forward Mr Muwadi to the district service commission for disciplinary action for the conduct unbecoming of a public servant,” read the letter in part.

In a related development, the LC5 chairman-elect of Kamuli District, Mr Thomas Franz Kategere, has put on notice all public servants in the district who are guilty of having swindled any funds to either pay back the money or resign before he assumes office.

“The people have spoken that they are tired of corrupt civil servants so anyone who has eaten public funds or picked money from public coffers should pay back or resign,” he said.

Mr Kategere issued the warning recently shortly after he was declared winner of the District LC5 election.
