Civil Aviation Authority Boss Fired

Appeared in The New Vision on 29 Mar 2017

Dr Rama Makuza, the managing director of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), has been removed. Sources told New Vision that Makuza’s contract, which was due to expire at the end of this year, was terminated yesterday by the works minister, Eng. Monica Ntege Azuba.

The exact reason for the removal of Makuza as the CAA managing director had not been established by press time. However, CAA has been embroiled in controversies.

Last year, the Inspectorate of Government (IG) investigated CAA for alleged mismanagement of Entebbe International Airport. The IG’s investigations focused on alleged mismanagement of the procurement process of the airport cleaning firm, hygiene standards at the airport and the amount of money paid to the cleaning firm.

The investigations by the IG followed displeasure by the President over the state of the airport. In its report, the IG asked the board to take disciplinary action against a number of top senior officials for their alleged role in irregular award of a contract to Clear Environment Cleaning Services.
