Kayunga- Drivers and members of Ssezibwa Taxi Hire and Transport Cooperative Society Ltd (STHTCSL), a body whose tender to manage Kayunga Taxi park was recently cancelled by Kayunga Town Council authorities over breach of contract, have again asked the Inspector General of Government (IGG) to investigate the society’s top management over misappropriation of funds and mismanagement of the organisation.

Speaking to Sunday Monitor on Wednesday, Mr Kaggwa Kasolo, one of the members of the society, alleged that their chairperson, Mr Sadiq Buyinza, has in the past four years used the society property, includes land as collateral to get bank loans, which he claims have not benefited members and the group.

“The IGG should investigate the management of the society with a view of finding out how the funds were utilised,” Mr Kaggwa said.

However, Mr Buyinza dismissed the allegations, saying he has always given proper accountability of money owned by the group.

Last week, Kayunga Town Council authorities passed a resolution cancelling the tender it had awarded to STHTCSL to manage Kayunga Taxi Park over failure to comply with terms and conditions in the tender agreement.

According to Kayunga Town Council mayor Magid Nyanzi, the tenderer failed to pay three months advance leading to an accumulation of arrears amounting to Shs13m.

“The tender agreement states that the cooperative society had to pay three months in advance, which they failed to comply with,” Mr Nyanzi said.

Due to failure by the cooperative society to remit the funds to the town council, many projects had stalled, including garbage collection in the town.

“Council took over management of the taxi park from October 1 until June next year when the tender to run it will be advertised,” the mayor said.
