The National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has interdicted its director of finance and administration, Aristarco Kasekende Mujuzi, following his dossier to the Inspectorate of Government (IG) over fraud involving billions of shillings.
Kasekende was interdicted on August 14 by the NEMA board of directors chaired by Prof. J.H. Nyeko Pen-Mogi, hardly two months after he had worked with a whistleblower to report fraud of over sh1.7b to the IGG, according to court documents.
According to the termination letter signed by Prof. Nyeko, who is also Gulu University vice chancellor, Kasekende was accused of ‘negatively exposing NEMA’ when he reported financial impropriety to the IGG and Bank of Uganda.
Nyeko said Kasekende also breached the NEMA Code of Conduct when he complained in writing to Bank of Uganda and Ministry of Finance without recourse to the NEMA executive director.
However, the High Court has stopped the NEMA board from removing Kasekende from his position until his case is heard.
