District Fisheries Officer Arrested Getting Bribe

Appeared in Red Pepper on 20 Aug 2015

Officers from the office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) on Thursday last week arrested the Buyende District Fisheries Officer for receiving a bribe.

John Kennedy Muwadi was arrested while receiving sh1.3m from fishermen in the district whose fishing gear he had earlier impounded.

Muwadi’s arrest came after he confiscated bad fishing gear from fishermen on Lake Kyoga and later asked for money to release the gadgets.

One of the fishermen whose identity is withheld for obvious reasons said that Muwadi asked for a bribe of sh2m which they agreed upon.

They however set a trap when they notified the office of the IGG in Jinja which sent its detectives who arrested him red-handed receiving sh1.3m as part of the agreed money in his office.
