Editorial: Operationalise Leadership Code Tribunal

The ethics minister, Simon Lokodo, has told Parliament that the Leadership Code Tribunal (LCT) will start its operations next financial year.

The LCT will handle cases of the Leadership Code’s infringement. The Leadership Code among other things mandates senior public servants to file their wealth declarations as well as sets out a code of behaviour for them.

This is welcome news as up to this point the Inspector General of Government (IGG), the custodian of these declarations, has had no avenue to pursue leaders who fall foul of the Leadership Code.

One of the reasons the Government is viewed as being increasingly corrupt is because the politicians and politicians can get away with plundering the public coffers with no risk of reprisal. The LCT is a step in the right direction.
