Engineers Accused Of Fuelling Corruption

Appeared in The New Vision on 11 May 2015

The Inspectorate of Government has said there is an increase in syndicated corruption cases, where engineers in private practice are conniving with public servants to steal government funds.

The Deputy IGG, George Bamugemereire, blamed this on what he described as the โ€œdrive to get rich quickโ€ among young engineers. He said this is overriding the ethics and integrity of the young professionals and spoiling the entire profession.

โ€œBut the Inspectorate of Government has resolved to come after them with everything we have because there is no time to play around with public funds when the country is looking at infrastructure development projects,โ€ he added.

Bamugemereire was speaking during the Institute of Professional Engineers workshop on ethics at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.
