The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has been tasked with investigating public servants and politicians whose salaries do not match the property they own.
Grace Atwongyeire, the principal legal officer in the Office of the President, said officers who have established property worth more than their income should be investigated.
This emerged after Alhaji Isha Kato, the mayor of Arua Municipal Council, asked the Directorate for Ethics and Integrity and the IG why they have failed to probe officers.
Gerald Gwaira, an official from the IG, said people who steal money and invest it in the name of relatives are also liable for prosecution. Gwaira said once convicted, such public servants were not supposed to be employed in any public office for the next 10 years.
