The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has ordered the Kamuli chief administrative officer (CAO), Ben Otim Ogwete, to recover over sh500m that was lost through overpayment of primary school teachersโ€™ salaries.

In a letter to the CAO, the Deputy IGG, Mariam Wangadya, said the Auditor General (AG) in a report on June 30, 2012, indicated that between December 2011 and June 2012, a sum of sh550,359,195 was overpaid in salaries to 379 teachers in the district.

Wangadya wants the money recovered from the teachers who were paid above their basic salaries. This should be remitted to the IG Assets Recovery Account, with effect from December last year, she wrote in a letter of November 26 last year.

However information at the education ministry shows no submission from Kamuli for the salary recovery.
