IGG Considers Closure Of Regional Offices

Appeared in The Daily Monitor on 25 Jan 2018

The Inspectorate of Government (IG) is considering closing some of its regional offices if operational funds continue to be low.

The revelation was made by the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Ms. Irene Mulyagonja, while opening a five-day training workshop for directors and heads of divisions in the IG and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Jinja district.

Mulyagonja noted that the IG is only allocated sh45.42b to do its job.

The IGG also said there is need to recruit more staff because the 150 technical personnel in her office are overwhelmed by the higher number of government employees they are supposed to monitor.

Appearing before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee last week, the IGG asked for additional sh6.487b to the sh45.42 the Inspectorate has been operating on.
