'IGG Has Powers To Interdict'

The High court has resolved the standoff between Parliament and the Inspectorate of Government over the interdiction of Samuel Wanyaka.

Court ruled recently that the IGG had powers to order the interdiction of Wanyaka, the director of budgeting at Parliament. Wanyaka is facing fraud-related charges in the Anti-Corruption Court. He had petitioned court, arguing that the IGG had no powers to order his interdiction.

But in her ruling, Justice Lydia Mugambe described Wanyaka’s application as an abuse of court process aimed at frustrating the IGG’s work.

Article 230 (2) of the Constitution allows the IGG to make “orders and give directions as are necessary and appropriate”.
