An Inspectorate of Government (IG) officer has clashed with Katakwi district officials over failure to submit quarterly audited accounts.

“I am disappointed with Katakwi on accountability; the situation is worrying,” Anatoli Byaruhanga, the Regional Inspectorate Officer (RIO) of Soroti said.

Byaruhanga told the district officials that his office had received complaints that some leaders were practicing nepotism, influence peddling, tribalism as well as stealing public funds.

Byaruhanga was speaking during the launch of the northern fourth leg of the anti-corruption caravan campaign, organised by Action Aid Uganda with support from Democratic Governance Facility.

The Katakwi LC 5 boss Walter Elas Okiring, hit back at the RIO, saying he (Byaruhanga) cannot scare the district leadership.
