The Inspectorate of Government has halted a deal in which eight people had allegedly fraudulently claimed sh1.3b from the Government as compensation for land they relinquished for the establishment of Bukooli College in Bugiri district.

Out of the sh1.365b they were claiming, the group had already received sh316.4m. The balance of sh1.049b that was still on the district account, was however, withheld following the intervention of the Inspector General of Government (IGG).

In a report signed by the Deputy IGG, George Bamugemereire, the claimants were directed to refund sh316.4m.

โ€œThe money should be paid to the Assets Recovery Account No. 003-03008-8000-007 in Bank of Uganda within 90 days from the date of receipt of this letter. Failure to comply will lead to a more stern action against you,โ€ read the report dated February 10.
