IGG Orders Cancellation Of Investor'S Land Title

Appeared in The Daily Monitor on 16 May 2016

Jinja. The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has ordered the cancellation of a land title that was issued to a consortium of investors in Jinja, Ms Nile Agro Industries Limited, for alleged encroachment on government land.

The Land in question measures 20.3 hectares and is located on Plots 50-62 Industrial Estate Road in Walukuba, Masese Division in Jinja Municipality.

In an April 19 letter to the Registrar of Titles in the Ministry of Lands, the Deputy IGG, Ms Mariam Wangadya, accuses the investor of including parts of a gazzetted wetland and railway land on his land title.

The IGG said Jinja Municipality planning committee had noticed the anomaly and brought it to the attention of the investors for corrective measures but their advice was ignored.

“By copy of this report, it is recommended that you invoke the powers given to you by the Constitution to recall the certificate of Title issued to Ms Nile Agro Industries for refusing to adjust the size of the land to leave out government land,” the IGG’s letter read in parts.

Ms Wangadya also directed that disciplinary action be taken against the District Staff Surveyor, Mr Steven Ndegeya for alleged neglect of duty. Jinja Chief Administrative Officer, Ms Olivia Hope Nakyanzia was not available for a comment.

However, the outgoing Jinja chairman, Mr Fredrick Ngobi Gume, acknowledged receiving a copy of the IGG’s communication and said efforts are being made to implement its recommendations.
