IGG Orders On Taxi Operators' Tenders

The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has written to the Ministry of Local Government Permanent Secretary, Benjamin Kamumanya, asking him to implement the President’s directive on taxi operators’ tenders.

The Presidential directive empowers taxi operators to manage taxi parks in all local councils through their Saccos to supplement their income.

Previously, local councils have been awarding tenders to people who are not in the taxi industry, something that has been opposed by taxi operators who claim they are being cheated.

In a letter dated December 16, 2016, Deputy IGG Ms Mariam Wangadya noted that some officials of the local governments seem conveniently reluctant to enforce the said directive.

“…the purpose of this letter is to refer this matter to you to handle in liaison with the management of Uganda Transporters and Development Agency (Utrada) and the respective local governments and determine a long-lasting solution to the problem,” the letter read in part.
