The Inspectorate of Government (IG) during the last financial year saved over sh2b from being swindled by corrupt officials and politicians, the Deputy IGG, George Bamugemereire has revealed.
Bamugemereire made the revelation at a consultative meeting for the Peace Recovery and Development Plan (PRDP III) at Margaritha Palace Hotel in Lira on Friday.
โLast year, we recovered sh27b through preventive measures when we realised that money was about to be stolen and sh1.5b in cash from those implicated in corruption,โ he told journalists after the meeting that attracted LC5 chairpersons, chief administrative officers and resident district commissioners.
He said about 2,000 out of 3,000 reported corruption cases are disposed of annually by the Inspectorate.
The consultative meeting was aimed at charting the way forward for the successful implementation of PRDP III and to devise measures to avert shoddy works that were detected in PRDP II.
