IGG Should Investigate Mulago'S Cancer Institute

Appeared in The Observer on 16 Mar 2015

I have been nursing my sister at Mulago’s cancer institute since October 2014 but service delivery continues to dwindle.

At the moment, there is heavy investment in the purchase of ICT equipment, yet most of the patients sleep on the floor. Others sleep on verandas at night and if it dares to rain, it pours on them. Why should an institute but computers before getting hospital beds?

There is common staff among staff at the institute that millions of shillings have been spent on ICT equipment whose effectiveness can’t be seen: meanwhile, the doctors are overworked in the wards.

I call upon the Inspector General of Government to investigate this issue. Having a cancer patient is painful enough…!
