The Inspector General of Government (IGG) asks the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga to kick out Bukonzo East MP, Yokasi Bihande on grounds that he was convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude.
Bihande was convicted of embezzling the sh10m constituency development fund last year.
The appeal was made on Friday by IGG’s legal officer Sidney Asubo, while appearing before the legal affairs committee of Parliament to give the IGG’s position on the Anti-Corruption Bill 2013.
The Bill, which is a private member’s Bill and was tabled by Makindye East MP John Ssimbwa early this year, seeks to amend the Anti-Corruption Act, 2009, which has been criticised for not being strong enough to fight corruption.
If passed into law, the Bill would provide the Government with binding powers to confiscate property of people convicted of corruption.
