The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has asked the board of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to take disciplinary action against top senior officials for their alleged role in irregular award of a contract to Clear Environment Cleaning Services Limited.
The officers are the manager of operations, Christopher Omondi, senior procurement officer Paul Makumbi, supervisor VVIP/VIP Hope Barahire, assistant manager accounting Michael Kibirige and acting manager communications and public affairs Vianney Lugya among others.
In a report dated November 2016, Deputy IGG Mariam Wangadya indicated that the officers, most of whom were members of evaluation and contracts committees, irregularly awarded the contract to the company.
The firm was contracted at sh847.6m for two years, which means the firm was paid sh35m per month.
In June last year, the IGG sanctioned the investigations after a whistleblower wrote a dossier complaining about the way the cleaning firm was procured, issues of corruption, hygiene standards at the airport and the amount of money paid to the cleaning firm by CAA.
