Kaliro: The Inspector General of Government has warned medical personnel in government health facilities against professional negligence and theft of drugs.
Lady Justice Irene Mulyagonja sounded the warning while speaking at Bumanya Health Centre IV in Namwiwa Sub-county, Kaliro District, where she presided over the handover of an Ultra Sound machine by the Rotary Club of Kololo at the weekend.
Ms Mulyagonja, who also cautioned the staff of Bumanya Health Centre IV against negligence of duty and misuse of drugs and equipment, also warned them against demanding for money from patients.
“I appeal to health workers to use the machine to save lives of our people. You should not again ask patients for money to access services like in other areas,” she said.
The Ultra Sound machine worth Shs8 million will be helping to detect uterus infections and abdominal problems which are on the rise among pregnant women in the area.
The In Charge of Bumanya Health Centre, Dr Jaliru Wanikira, said the facility has been referring pregnant women to the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for scan services, which is more than 50 Kms away from Kaliro.
The president of the Rotary Club of Kololo, Ms Ali Munira, said this was the second machine to be donated with the help of Rotary International. The first one was donated to Ibanda Health Centre IV.
