The Speaker of Parliament and the Speaker yesterday went public about their wealth. In a ceremony that took place at her office, Kadaga declared to the IGG that actually, she has an account in a foreign bank. But this account only has 300 pounds meaning she has about shs1.2m in her account!
Kadaga didn’t stop at that, she has got debts not only in DFCU bank but also in the Parliamentary Sacco though she didn’t disclose to what magnitude she is indebted.
The Speaker added that among her wealth is a hotel, a residential house in Muyenga, three cars and farm in Nakaseke district.
As for the IGG, she stated that in her life, she doesn’t own a car. The one she has was given to her by government.
She added that she also has property in Kololo and two plots along Gayaza road. She said she intends to purchase more land.
Mulyagonja asked Members of Parliament to speed up the process of declaring their wealth before March 31. She was however concerned about a number of people who smuggle huge sums of dimes in and out of the country using the porous border points.
The IGG thinks some of that money is actually ill-gotten by some of those individuals.
