The defence lawyers representing five people, including former works minister Abraham Byandala, accused of embezzling over sh24.5b for Mukono-Kyetume-Katosi road, have blamed the Inspectorate of Government (IG) for selective prosecution.
Yesterday, the defence lawyers, led by Ivan Engoru, wondered why none of the contract committee members was arraigned in court yet the IG contends that the contract was fraudulently awarded to M/S Eutaw Mississippi which was non-existent.
This was during the cross-examination of Lisa Mwangale, a Senior Inspectorate Officer in the IG. Mwangale also doubles as the investigation officer in the case.
The defence lawyers also faulted the IGG for ignoring the advice of the then Attorney General (AG), Peter Nyombi and instead relied on the advice of his junior to halt the project, which decision they said caused financial loss to the Government.
The court was presided over by Anti-Corruption Court judge Lawrence Gidudu.
