The Inspector General of Government, Irene Mulyagonja, has defended herself against claims by Members of Parliament that she is only good at dealing with “small fish and chicken thieves” and not catching the big thieves, who have stolen billions of taxpayers’ money.
She was responding to queries raised by members of the legal and parliamentary affairs committee. This was after she made a presentation on the Inspectorate’s policy statement and national budget framework paper for the financial year 2015/16.
“If you say nothing has been done to fight corruption, it is not fair,” Mulyagonja told the committee chaired by the UPDF representative, Sarah Mpabwa, yesterday.
Mulyagonja challenged the MPs to define what they mean by small and big cases. She assured MPs that they had investigated big and small cases and that they prioritise investigations. She added that they do not publicise cases they are still investigating.
