President Museveni has named High Court judge Irene Mulyagonja Kakooza the new Inspector General of Government.
A source in State House, who preferred not to be named because the communication was yet to be made official, told this newspaper last night that the President had already signed the instrument appointing Justice Mulyagonja.
The Constitutional Court recently ruled that acting IGG Raphael Baku was holding the position illegally and froze the office. This followed a petition by ministers Sam Kutesa, John Nasasira and Mwesigwa Rukutana challenging the powers of Mr Baku to prosecute them for offences related to Chogm.
The judges held that the office was not constitutionally constituted and said Mr Baku could not conduct prosecutions. It was not clear last night what Mr Baku’s fate was.
