At least sh500m collected in Njeru town council in Buikwe district was siphoned through an illegal account.

According to a letter dated July 6, addressed to the Inspector General of Government (IGG), the Njeru Town Council LC3 chairman, Paul Musoke, has asked that the office of the town clerk and town treasurer be investigated over the matter.

The account named Njeru Town Council Property Rate Account and number 0020247045 was opened at the Jinja Branch of Tropical Bank on December 30, 2014.

The IGG, Irene Mulyagonja, yesterday said they received the complaint. “The matter is under investigation.”
