Nssf Yet To Hire Contractor For Pension Towers

Appeared in The New Vision on 30 May 2016

Five years down the road, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Pension Towers in Kampala is yet to get a contractor.

Explaining the status of the project, the Fundโ€™s head of marketing and communication, Teddy Barbara Arimi, dismissed reports of inflated contract prices, saying no contract has so far been awarded. According to Arimi, NSSF has contracted De-Point Consultants Limited to handle the procurement process.

Recently, a whistleblower signed off as F.K alleged in a letter to the IGG that the NSSF Managing director, Richard Byarugaba, hiked the construction bill of the Pension Towers from sh181.5b to sh227b when he returned yet his deputy, Geraldine Ssali, with approval from the board, had reduced the bill to sh181.5b.

The procurement process for phase 2 stalled in 2012 after the IGG directed the management of NSSF to cancel the procurement process over leaked information and corruption.

The IGG recommended that the NSSF board of directors and management outsource services for procurements in respect to projects above $2.5m (sh6.6b).
