Appeared in Red Pepper on 02 Mar 2017

Government recently launched an online service that will ease declaration of income, assets and liabilities and also facilitate faster submission by those required and verification by the Inspectorate of Government.

The mandatory biannual exercise by elected leaders and senior government officials will now be undertaken online and according to the IGG Justice Irene Mulyagonja, the online declaration will effectively capture and process more information.

Launching the declaration period using the online declaration system at Masaka Secondary School in Masaka Municipality, the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi called upon members of the public to actively participate in the fight against corruption and maladministration.

He observed that ordinary citizens are the most affected when resources are plundered because they are denied access to basic services they are entitled to and further retained in poor living conditions.

The IGG said the system is cheap, effective, efficient and convenient as one fills the forms online at their convenience from any location on the globe.
