The Anti-Corruption Court has convicted a Police constable of impersonating officials from the Inspectorate of Government.
Magistrate Patricia Amoko yesterday convicted Edward Odama and Benson Lukubo, sentencing them to 18 months in jail.
Amoko said the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that Odama, a police officer attached to the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID), impersonated officials from the Inspectorate of Government and extorted money from Kaliro town council officials.
The Inspectorate of Government Spokesperson, Munira Ali, said the office had registered a number of complaints about people masquerading as Inspectorate officials.
She said some of the culprits have been arrested, charged in court, prosecuted and convicted.
