The Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Development Bank Limited, Ms Patricia Ojangole has been sent back to Luzira prison after she failed to get bail. She is facing charges of alleged conflict of interest.
Ms Ojangole appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court for bail and presented three sureties. The Chief Magistrate, Ms Sarah Langa, sent her back to prison following a submission by prosecution led by the Inspectorate of Government lawyer, Mr Sydney Asubo, who asked court for more time to submit an affidavit containing information proving the interference of the accused to the witnesses.
Mr Asubo, who had asked court for an adjournment of a few days, was ordered to file all necessary documents today (Wednesday). “In the interest of justice, the state will be allowed to file its affidavit,” Ms Langa said. She added: “If the state fails to file it by 10:00 am today (Wednesday), she will go ahead to make a ruling on the bail application.”
Prosecution alleges that Ms Ojangole involved herself in the recruitment of the position of chief executive, which had been advertised on October 8, 2012 resulting into her own appointment.
