Ura, IG Join Hands To Probe Leaders Over Wealth

Appeared in The New Vision on 19 Jan 2018

The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Irene Mulyagonja has sought the assistance of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to establish how 22,608 leaders, directors, commissioners and other public servants had accumulated the wealth they declared to the IGG online.

This was during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on information sharing between URA and the IG yesterday. The IGG said, โ€œURA is excellent in financial investigations and, therefore, we will need your assistance on investigating leadersโ€™ assets among others.โ€

In the MOU, the tax body and the IG have also agreed to track and recover assets accumulated illicitly by civil servants abroad, those registered in the names of relatives, organisations and run by individuals.
