IG, FIA Reaffirm Commitment To Jointly Fight Against Corruption And Financial Crimes

The Inspectorate of Government (IG) and Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) have reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating corruption, money laundering and illicit financial flows in Uganda.
This commitment was reiterated during a courtesy call paid by the FIA Executive Director, Mr. Samuel Were Wandera, on the Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, at the IG headquarters on Wednesday.
The IGG welcomed the continued collaboration between the two institutions and emphasized the need to further strengthen joint efforts in addressing corruption and financial crimes. She underscored the importance of enhanced information sharing and coordinated investigations to improve accountability and asset recovery.
Mr. Wandera, who led a delegation of five senior FIA officials, congratulated Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala upon her appointment by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He also congratulated the Deputy Inspectors General of Government, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria and Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, on their reappointment.
He briefed the IGG on FIAโs mandate, outlining its core functions and strategic operations in combating money laundering, terrorism financing and other illicit financial activities.
During the engagement, the two teams agreed to strengthen operational collaboration through several key measures, including maintaining a collective database, integrating financial profiling into IG investigations, setting clear timelines for financial investigations, and conducting joint staff training in asset recovery and financial crime investigations.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to work closely together in promoting transparency and accountability, and to enhance Ugandaโs capacity to combat corruption and financial crimes.
