July 11, 2025
The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Hon. Beti Kamya Turwomwe, has called on Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Uganda’s commercial banks to actively collaborate with the Inspectorate of Government (IG) in the fight against corruption.
Speaking
during the monthly meeting of Bank CEOs held in Kampala, Hon. Kamya emphasized
that corruption spares no one, but its impact on the banking and financial
sector is particularly profound. She urged the CEOs to raise red flags on
suspicious transactions and to expose corruption incidences.
The IGG
informed the bankers that the Inspectorate had already engaged with a wide
range of stakeholders including public officials, Religious Leaders, Civil
Society Organisations, and the media among others, to enlist their support to
expose the corrupt..
She further
invited the CEOs to share innovative ideas and proposals that would strengthen
the partnership between the banking industry and the IG for more effective
anti-corruption efforts.
In
response, Mr. Julius Kakeeto, the Chairperson of Uganda Bankers Association and
CEO of Pos tBank Uganda, commended the Inspectorate’s efforts in combating
corruption. He pledged the association’s support and committed to working
closely with the IG to develop structured modalities for collaboration.
